POSTPONED til 2011 , STAY TUNED

The San Juan Stage Racing committee has elected to postpone this year's race until 2011. We choose to use the term “postpone” because we are proud of the work the committee has done in bringing renowned musher Libby Riddles to Durango to tour the schools, sign books and promote mushing in the area. Unfortunately, the lack of purse has kept mushers away and we had to make the difficult decision to postpone until mushers and money are flowing.

While we do not have a title sponsor for our race, though not for lack of trying, will plan to have a 10K purse by the time our race date is advertised in the Fall to lure the mushers and host event worth traveling to from afar. We are entirely funded by donations from the local communities and putting on a dog race is quite expensive as is participating in one so mushers cannot justify the expense of competing in the San Juan Stage Race for a small purse.

If you donated to this event we truly appreciate that and we will contact you shortly to ask permission to use the funds to make a donation to the CFF. We will use any left over money as a base as we begin working toward next year’s event. Our efforts to stage the race and raise awareness of and money for CF are very personal: one of the members has a daughter with CF. We all hold the hope that our efforts will contribute to relief for all those touched by CF.
Over the next months, we will be redoubling our efforts to find a title sponsor and put the race on a solid financial foundation. The key for us will be to attract a title sponsor who will fund the race to a level that allows us to raise awareness and money for CF by offering a purse large enough to attract professional stage race caliber mushers.
